Pennsylvania - Lehigh County - Vynecrest Winery

Vynecrest Winery and Vineyard - Jan 2020 - Pinot Noir Rose had light red cherry and cranberry flavor with a smooth, clean finish, 2017 Chambourcin had a slight aromas of drying tobacco, dark cherry flavor, and a smooth cream butter finish, 2017 Lemberger, light-bodied, also had drying tobacco aroma, with red cherry and plum flavor and a fruity smooth finish, the Merlot, medium-bodied with mild earthy aroma, had plum flavor and a tannic finish, the #40, their anniversary blend, medium-bodied with flavors of dark fruits and tannic finish, and 50/50, with the Chambourcin balancing the California Zinfandel into an easy drinking fruity red wine.

Mar 2019 - The 2017 Pinot Grigio was smooth and crisp, 2016 Dry Riesling had mild aromas and a crisp, acidic finish, 2016 Traminette had overpowering floral aromas with a slightly sweet, acidic finish, Riesling had apple and melon flavor with a slightly sweet clean finish, and Autumn Gold was a good compromise wine. The Spiced Winter White was like eating apple pie filling.

The 2017 Chambourcin had a pepper aroma and cherry flavor, the 50/50 was fruit sweet and balanced with tannins, and the VyneCrest Red is more semi-dry, like a pizza wine. I'll have to return to purchase #39.

Mar 2018 - I can't find my notes, but I have a bottle of #38, so I know I visited.

Mar 2017 - While on our way to the wine exposition in Syracuse, I wanted to stop and sample #37 to compare it to #36. I tried the 2015 dry Riesling, with hints of white grapefruit, while my wife tried the semi-sweet Riesling which acted more like a play with distinct acts. The sparkling Traminette flora aroma was not as prominent as the 2015 Traminette, but had a tricking sweet finish. The Vynecrest White, their Cayuga blend, was a symphony to sweet finish. The 2014 Pinot Noir had body and the light oak did not overpower the fruit flavors. The Chambourcin, though, did not excite my palate. But #37 lived up to what I expected - bold fruit flavors, spiciness and the right amount of oak.

Jan 2016 - It's been awhile since I've been here and I will say that I probably will only return when in the area. The reason for this is because they have gone completely to screw caps (I understand why, but a red is a red and it needs a cork). It is not to say I did not enjoy the wine but of the reds, which I enjoy the most, three of the five were 2014 vintages. I tried the Lemberger and felt it needed more aging. The 2013 Pinot Noir and No 36, their Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Moiret blend, were better. I also tried their 2013 Chardonnay, 2014 Dry Riesling and semi-sweet Riesling. Of the three whites, I enjoyed the semi-sweet Riesling the best.

Another taster tired the 2014 Seyval Blanc, 2013 Pinot Grigio, and the Nouveau Beaujolais. The Nouveau Beaujolais was enjoyed, for not being a sweet wine person and the tartness of the Seyval Blanc.

Apr 2013 - On our second visit to the winery, we brought the TVCEF group. Although they had a tasting menu for us, we were able to taste other wines available. They chose a dry and a sweet group for us to try.  I enjoyed the bear naked Chardonnay, Riesling, Cabernet Franc and Lemberger (something new to me).

Dec 2013 - In preparation for the spring tasting tour, I started off with the Pinot Grigio, a crisp wine with a pear aroma, while my wife tried theTtraminette. I tried the Autumn Gold (Cayuga and Vidal Blanc blend) and the Vignoles. I preferred the Vignoles over the Gold due to its smooth finish. My wife enjoyed the smoothness of the First Blush. I finished off with the Spiced Winter Red while my wife enjoyed the Cherry DiVyne.
